Employees will have tuition paid by Visiting Nurse through partnership with Questa Foundation

Visiting Nurse is proud to announce that Amy Hernandez, RN, and Lynn Herman, LPN, are the inaugural recipients of tuition assistance through the Betsy Waterfield Chapman Employee Education Fund at Visiting Nurse. Hernandez plans to complete her master’s degree in Nursing from Western Governors University, while Herman will complete his associate’s degree in Nursing from Ivy Tech.

The Betsy Waterfield Chapman Employee Education Fund was established in 2021 to assist Visiting Nurse employees further their education to better their career. In turn, Visiting Nurse benefits from employee retention and higher morale, and our patients and families benefit from an increased quality of care. The fund provides forgivable, up-front higher education tuition assistance to Visiting Nurse employees. The fund was created through the generous donations from Howard Chapman in honor of his late wife, Betsy Waterfield Chapman, and The James Foundation and other individual donors.

“I think Visiting Nurse is a terrific organization,” said Chapman. “My wife Betsy benefited greatly from it. I’ve been a patron of the grief center myself, so I really support this organization and I think having these students continuing their education is so important and I’m happy to support it.”

The concept of creating an Education Fund began with the members of Visiting Nurse’s Foundation Board of Directors, said Visiting Nurse CEO Leslie Friedel.

“The dream was to create an educational fund to recognize the dedication of Visiting Nurse employees,” Friedel said. “We are thrilled at the interest Visiting Nurse employees have shown in seeking out this educational opportunity.  We are so very thankful to Howard Chapman, the James Foundation and to individuals who have provided donations to make this dream a reality!”
